On December 19th, 2022, Think Tank EUROPA hosted a webinar on the forthcoming EU NGT-regulation.

About this event

The European Union is facing a potential revolution in its food and agricultural policy. Next year the European Commission will present a proposal, which is expected to set a novel course for the Unions genetic engineering law, exempting new genomic techniques – such as CRISPR – from the Unions GMO regulation.

Proponents of the new direction argue that gene-edited crops harbor significant environmental benefits and can help combat world hunger. Opponents fear unforeseen environmental risks as well as diminishing consumer choice.

Think Tank EUROPA and Crop Innovation Denmark have teamed up to facilitate a discussion on what role gene-edited crops should play in future European agriculture. We have invited leading researchers, companies, and NGOs to discuss the value, challenges and use cases of novel gene-editing techniques.

Programme:

Welcome by Lykke Friis, Director, Think TANK EUROPA

Discussion:

Svend Christensen, Head of Department for Plant- and Environmental Sciences at the University of Copenhagen

Trine Barrett Weinreich, Director of Arla Gården, Milk Quality and Global Sustainability at ARLA FOODS

Mads Flarup Christensen, Executive Director, Greenpeace Nordics

Birger Eriksen, CEO, Sejet Plant Breeding

The webinar will be moderated by Ditte Sørensen, Chief Analyst, Think Tank EUROPA
